报告题目：Mixed use of linear finite element solution of “dual formulation” flow model towards reliable simulation of conservative advection-dispersion problem

An accurate simulation result of flow in a heterogeneous isotropic formation is essential for describing the advective transport of a contaminant. This talk demonstrates a novel method for velocity field construction through a mixed use of linear finite element hydraulic head and stream function solutions of the “dual formulation” flow model. A conservative advection-dispersion problem in a heterogeneous formation is solved for assessment of the accuracy of the present new approach.
主讲人简介：Dr. Jun Cao obtained his Bachelor degree in Aerodynamics in 1989 from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, China, and his Ph.D. degree in Mathematics in 1995 from University of Paris VI, France. His research work had included development of advanced numerical tools for applications in the aerospace engineering (at Dassault Aviation, France in 1990–1995 and at University of California, San Diego in 1995–1996), the environmental engineering (at Stanford University in 1996–1998), and the fuel cell technology (at Simon Fraser University in 1999, University of Victoria in 1999–2000, Canada). He joined Ryerson in August 2000, and now he is a Full Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. Currently his research work focuses on development of novel numerical methods for mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of complex flows and transport phenomena.
